5.0 out of 5 stars Still Going Strong Two Years Later ..., December 20, 1999

I have nothing but good things to say about the BJC-80. I've had it for two years, use it almost daily (mostly for color graphics printing) and it's still going strong. It travels well and is very convenient to use. Black and white print quality is excellent and color print quality is out of this world. I have the battery pack and use infrared with my Thinkpad notebook (something about wireless printing that can really impress a client!). I also use the scanning adapter - works fine on the road, but I prefer a flatbed scanner for most jobs.

5.0 out of 5 stars A versatile, rugged and economical portable printer, July 16, 1999

My company sells Home Inspection software (Palm-Tech Inspector) and many of our inspectors have commented on how much they like the Canon BJC-80. It is light, easy to carry, and has a good page feeder. In our tests, the BJC-80 averages 150-170 pages of full text per mono cartridge in draft mode. Its color graphics are good for a portable printer. Infrared communication is a little slower than its competition, but as a cabled solution it is untouchable.
We at Palm-Tech reccomend the BJC-80 to our clients every day.

4.0 out of 5 stars 5 years later, May 21, 2005

I bought this almost 5 years ago and it still works. the ink is too expensive, and the paper doesn't always feed right, but I've gone through a lot of other printers in the same period of time and this is the only one I still have and use. I travel with it and it gets banged around and has been dropped several times and otherwise abused. I was recently looking for a replacement since I had to leave my old one in mexico--thinking that there should be something as good that is new and cheaper, but I was disappointed in everything I saw and I'm just going to keep using this one. It prints just fine (with some help) and is reliable.

Product Description

The BJC-80 features the latest Canon printing technology. Drop Modulation Technology, for example, produces sharper, richer color. Add the optional IS-12 color image scanner cartridge and your printer becomes a 360 dpi color sheet fed scanner the perfect way to add images and graphics to reports and presentations. The BJC-80 can go anywhere you need to go with its compact, lightweight design. Using its standard IrDA interface, you can print from IrDA-equipped Windows 95 and Windows 98 computers without a cable. You can even leave the power cord home—its optional rechargeable battery pack lets you print up to 200 pages.

For exceptionally portable printing options, the Canon BJC-80 offers all you could ask for wrapped in one very sleek package. Advanced printing technologies smooth black edges and separate colors for supreme legibility and exquisitely clear images; print speeds of 4 ppm black and 2 ppm color are on the slow side, but the final results are worth the wait. A 760 x 300 dpi supplies dense, true coloration on envelopes, high-gloss film, photo paper, plain paper or transparencies, on any size sheet up to 8.5 by 14 inches.

Weighing just over three pounds, the black case snaps shut and can be tucked right in your laptop's carrying case. Additional optional accessories like the portable power pack or scanner kit will expand the BJC-80's capabilities to that of your home printer, while the included 30-sheet input tray allows you to keep media organized even while on the go. Canon includes a one-year warranty covering parts and service.
